Tim continues in our Jesus Manifesto series, from the Sermon on the Mount. Here in Matthew 6 we see the principle, in v1, of secret service. Jesus applies this principle to giving, then (next week) to praying and fasting. In v1-4 we see both wrong and right ways to give to the needy. It is a beautiful thing to call God father and to give him glory as his salt and light children. It is a shocking vision to see the world as decay and darkness, more shocking to spend ourselves into that world as salt preserving and light bearing. It is a comfort and joy to be at peace with ourselves and with God our inner lives salted and illumined by kingdom breath.
