Saul starts well as a king and knows the Lords favour but as time proceeds his fear and shallow relationship with God allows him to move away from the Lord's protection and subsequent failure of his leadeship.

The desire for a King to be like other nations is actually the rejection of God as king. Jesus is the King hidden in the old testament and revealed in the new. He is planting seeds, inviting us into relationship with Him, as that is where He would have us be.

Before the Israelites had a King they were going through a time of chaos. But God intervened.
